badger11’s take on anime

Akihabara@DEEP Ep 7 - The zombification of Akihabara

There isn’t a whole lot going on in this episode as the team discover that they’re out of money. Most of the money they earn come from ads shown on Akira’s website and a little money from music created by Taiko and Box, it isn’t enough. Their main profit-making venture, acting as “trouble shooters” in Akihabara isn’t making any money at all. In fact, it seems to be costing them money as they’ve had to pay for damages to camera equipment in episode 6. As they’re trying to come up with new ideas, things suddenly go from bad to life-threatening. Not just for them, but for all of Akihabara.

Akira’s idea is to concoct a special energy drink made from all things: from fruit to parsley to Umaibos. The resulting drink turns everyone else off instantly. Daruma’s idea seems to be a cosplay fashion show, featuring the costumes that he made. Taiko and Box’s idea is to start a escort club staffed by the male otakus of Akihabara which also gets turned down by the rest of the team. Izumu and Page’s idea is to turn Izumi into a moe/loli like mascot. Izumu dresses in a school uniform and then a school swimsuit and ends her sentences with “Oniichan. The moe meter does go through the roof here. Unfortunately, she can only wear the clothes for a few minutes. It turns out that her skin is sensitive to the materials.

Akihabara@DEEP 6

This episode finds our fearless six heroes the victims of a tv news reporter out to make a name for herself. Kuno is an attractive reporter that has the guys drooling over her. She comes to Akihabara looking to do a piece on otakus when she runs into Page, Box, and Taiko who take her and her film crew back to the office. During the interview, Taiko has another one of his freezing sessions, Box changes his gloves because of his disorder while on camera, and Page has to use his computer speech synthesizer to carry on the interview because of his stuttering. To the dismay and anger of the team, the peice that airs shows them as uncaring when they move Taiko to a couch while he’s frozen claiming that the others don’t care about him otherwise they’d help him. The report makes Box light of disorder and makes it seem that Page can’t function without his laptop. This report pretty much angers all of the otakus in Akiba and death threats against Kuno start to appear on the Internet against her.

Manabi Straight! - Achieving your goals?!

The band

I’m glad that I’ve waited to basically marathon episodes six though nine of Manabi. Had I watched them one at a time as they were released, I know that my take would have been different on each episode, basically looking at the tree and not the forest. Its still an enjoyable show and the temptation to compare it to Azumanga Daioh and, now, Lucky Star is there. But each of these shows are different. With Azumanga Daioh, I picked up on feelings of nostalgia, I’m not sure what the outcome is with Lucky Star (Kagami rules - yes, even more so than Konata, but just barely. Twin tails ftw).

Hataraki Man Ep 10 and 11

Thanks to Arienai Fansubs for subbing this adult (no, not porn) show. I hope another season of this show comes. It’s one that I can easily recommend to people who don’t watch anime or think that’s nothing more than porn and robots. I’ve written a lot of notes (which I trashed) about the episode 10, trying to figure out what it meant to me. It focused on Hiro’s co-worker and occasional drinking buddy, Kaji. She’s the calm, always collected type (and the office beauty who seems to get away with things because of her looks).Everyone wonders how she can remain calm when the famous writer she’s working with is rumored to have been recently killed in a plane crash. We get hints that Hiro’s private life is starting to crash (a water pipe burst and flooded her apartment).

Lucky Star Ep2

I like part of the song and it’s the chorus part. The rest of it, I just don’t like. As for the show itself, I like it. This episode made me laugh, especially the part where Tsukasa was planning out a schedule and Konata was playing on the computer. I could easily identify with the two as that is exactly what I do. I make out a plan and just ignore it completely. It drives me up the wall and yet, I still do it. As for the rest of the episode, the randomness - dentists, Konata and the teacher, Hare Hare Yukai, Taniguhi Shiraishi was pretty good. It had me entertained and laughing for a lot of it. In the end, that’s all I really want out of this show. To be entertained.

Nodame Cantabile Ep 10 & 11 - George meet Sergei

Hey look, a box knife actually being used to cut a box!

It’s gotten to the point where I’m tired of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. I keep thinking of bad airline commercials and bad airline service. Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto Number 2 is very nice (I suppose that I’ll be checking iTunes store to see if they have it). I know I’ve heard Rachmaninoff before, but I don’t think I’ve given him much thought.
