Nodame Cantabile Ep 5 & 6

Apparently Nodame has a mean right jab as she cold-cocks Streseman. Because she convinces everyone to let Chiaki conduct, we get to see that, as a conductor, he is adept at the technical side of conducting. Despite the complaining, even Masumi notices that the orchestra is still not up to the task. Being technically accurate doesn’t substitute for experience and the tricks of getting the best performance out of the musicians. While both Chiaki and Streseman both have the ability and the respect for the music, its obvious that Streseman also has respect for the musicians, something that we will undoubtedly see Chiaki learn over the course of the show’s run.

I think I know what Ayu’s looking for. Either that or I’m too damn cynical. More on that later. It seems that we’ve pretty much been given a clue as to what happened to Ayu. Not surprising since the clues were there from the first episode as j.valdez mentioned. And the climax of this episode affirms that conclusion. So Ayu seems to be more than just a ghost, but is she a spirit (for lack of a better term) that doesn’t realize her situation? Is she a spirit that can cross between realms but has no knowledge of the other realm? Well, its been said before that this is a city of mysteries.

This episode covers Primula’s introduction and I think we’ll start seeing the remaining episodes resolves the stories of all of the girls and Rin. I actually found myself saying “kawaii desu ne”* several times. Well, that whole silent girl in rain routine was cute. I had a good laugh at the exchange that Rin and Itsuki had in the beginning.

SHUFFLE! Memories
Its taken me awhile to figure what annoyed me about this show. It wasn’t the borderline disinterest in any of the characters at first. I’ve come to like them and Rin should choose Mayumi. It wasn’t until I marathoned all of the released episodes several times to realize that certain episodes just annoyed me while others were just fine.
2 commentsManabi Straight! Ep 3 and 4

Manabi pulls a Haruhi on Mei
From episode 4
Funniest lines so far:
Muuchi: Fugusashi!
Mikan: You need a license to process Fugu.
Mikan: The little people came out while we were sleeping-
Muuchi: Sure (slap)

I don’t know why episode 4 struck me as having the funniest lines so far (well, those that I can remember) despite the issues that Mei faced. I think it must be Muuchi’s enthusiasm to inflict a potential deadly food choice on her classmates followed by Mikan’s straight delivery. Or maybe it was Manabi’s imitation of Thumper on too much caffeine. I really lost it with Mikan’s enthusiastic belief that the “little people” finished their promotion. Its probably the enthusiasm from the characters that is causing me to enjoy this show with each new episode. And I like the the facial distortions in these last two episodes.

Pretty much another enjoyable episode. At the start of this episode, Hiro is getting ready for a business trip to Osaka when Shinji mentions plans for a wedding. Hiro freaks out and it isn’t until later on the train does she realize that he was talking about the wedding of a friend. Back at the office she finds out that a coworker, Yumi, is getting married. Yumi is pretty much considered the office flirt. Mayu mentions that the gossip has it that Yumi’s finance left his girlfriend of eight years to be with Yumi.
